Some of Hollywood’s silent stars achieved an immortality that modern actors can only dream of.

Hollywood invited the wonderful Pola Negri to Hollywood. She left her native Poland and became one of the richest movie stars in the USA. She’s shown below with an almost unrecognizable Chaplin. Her most famous film was The Gypsy.

Everyone knows Charlie Chaplin and his little tramp.

Valentino’s eyes still smolder with passion. The archetypal, Latin lover, he stole ladies’ hearts. Okay, that’s a stretch to make him a thief, but in his most famous film, The Sheik he steals Lady Diana and carries her off to his camp.

Then there’s Amy Montgomery. Never heard of her? Not surprising since I made her up. She’s pivotal to my Heroes of Westhorpe Ridge trilogy since her star shone brighter than any other movie star.

Amy was as famous for her lovers as her acting roles. Her sex appeal and avarice, plus her eye for a good deal, made her millions. Sadly, her daughter wanted to move in polite circles. Her mother’s lifestyle made that impossible.

Although Amy’s daughter married, she raised her own daughter so prim and proper she made sucking lemons sound like a treat. Edith Montgomery holds the purse strings for her family, but had no time for girls. She left the bulk of her estate, property and over £15 million in stocks and shares to her great nephew, Army doctor, Adam Montgomery – as long as he marries within a year of her death.
