My First Book Love: #MFRWAuthor Blog Challenge, Week 42
Before I get to this week’s blog challenge topic, I have to share a photo with my fellow MFRW bloggers! Last weekend two of us (and we are scattered all across the U.S.) got to meet in person.
Here I am with Ed Hoornaert, Mr. Valentine. Just for fun, Ed was sporting the Romance Cover Chest look that day.
It was great fun meeting you, Ed!
And now on to the challenge topic: First Love
Yes, that’s the topic of this week’s blog challenge. But I’m not going to bore you with tales of the boy I had a crush on in fifth grade. Though I can remember his name, I never spent a minute of time with him. I never even talked to him.
But I did spend a lot of time with Laura Ingalls Wilder.
The Little House Series
I have no idea which of the books in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House series I read first, but I knew I had to read them all. I was hooked, and I went back to the library to find the earlier books, even one that was written for a lower grade level. This I remember because one of my cousins saw it and made fun of me for reading “baby” books, LOL!
He was ever after firmly cemented in my mind as a dolt.
Trixie Belden
My next series passion was for Trixie Belden Mysteries. Trixie was a thirteen-year-old sleuth, and I used to lament that my library didn’t have the entire series.
The Nancy Drew mysteries never really clicked with me, probably because I really couldn’t relate to Nancy’s age or her more affluent lifestyle.
Writing this blog makes me want to order up a couple of books from the Little House series and Trixie’s series and see if they still have the power to charm!
This is a blog hop, so hop along with my fellow MFRW Authors and see what they have to say on this topic. As this publishes, I’m wandering around London, (YAY!) so I may be delayed in getting to comments.

OMG another Trixie Beldon Fan!!!!! I talk all about Brian Beldon on my blog today!!! yowza
So awesome that you got to meet Ed – love the pic of you two! I, too, loved Trixie (and Nancy Drew). I still have a few Trixie books packed away downstairs.
It’s great that you and Ed were able to meet! I was a die-hard Nancy Drew fan, but I do’t think I eveer read a single Trixie Belden book. I fact, I don’t think I even heard about them until I was an adult. Obviously, I had a deprived childhood!
My grandmother introduced me to Trixie when I was 13, and my sister and I devoured as many as we could buy! Still have them in a box somewhere, along with my Nancy Drew books. Didn’t own as many of the ND books, but I know I read most of them at the library.
Great pic of you and Ed!
aww you and Ed look like you had fun. Love that chest piece!
I remember watching the TV series, but don’t recall ever reading any of the books. Never heard of the Trixie books. I tried, but didn’t get into Nancy Drew. I did however remember reading the Babysitting Club series.
Good gads, what a beautiful woman in the picture at the top of this post. Great to have met you Alina.
You and Ed look terrific! The abs! LOL. I read some Nancy Drew Books. My dad ordered books for me from a book club, so at home I read whatever had been delivered. Have fun in London!
Awesome you got to meet Ed! I’ve never heard of Trixie Belden but was a huge Nancy Drew fan.
My first book love was Encyclopedia Brown, because we had to figure out the mysteries.
Love the pic- and I loved, loved the Little House Series and still love to watch the show when it’s on.
