Dive into History at the Historical Romance Retreat
The 2019 Historical Romance Retreat
We’re only days away from the fourth annual Historical Romance Retreat, being held again at the Mission Inn in Riverside, California.
If you’re a fan of historical romance, this conference is an opportunity to relive your favorite historical era through period costuming and events. I had the opportunity to attend the very first HRR held at the Davenport Hotel in Spokane, Washington in 2016, and posted about it here.
A Book Fair
If you’re in the Southern California area and can’t attend the Retreat, consider coming on Saturday, September 14th between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. You’ll have a chance to mingle with your favorite historical authors and meet new ones at the Great Book Exhibition.
Alas, I was unable to attend HRR last year due to a family illness. This year, I’m also staying close to home awaiting the birth of a granddaughter within the next couple of weeks. Priorities! With any luck, I’ll be able to attend the Great Book Exhibition and chat with author friends. Caroline Warfield and Tessa Dare will be there, as well as my fellow Regency Salon members Annabelle Anders, Katherine Bone, and Alanna Lucas.
Costuming
One utterly awesome aspect of HRR at the Mission Inn is the participation of V.J. Dunraven and her staff of designers and stylists. V.J. is the force behind Period Images, a stock photo site that provides many of the images used by historical romance cover artists. V.J. also has costume patterns available through the McCall’s pattern company. Her team will be at HRR offering their Period Finery costume rentals at very reasonable rates.
Want to see what miracles V.J.’s team can perform?
At last spring’s California Dreamin’ Conference, I opted to have V.J. take my new headshot photo in period costume. She and her crew do amazing work! (But I have to say, this will never appear on one of my book covers, lol.)
If you’re a reader planning to attend the Great Book Exhibition, let me know in the comments! IF I’m able to come, I’ll look for you there.
