Taverns and Tabernacles — 2 Comments

  1. Thanks for your post! I lived in Pilsen as a child, on Cermak between Oakley and Bell, where my dad had a grocery story. I attended Our Lady of Vilna and my cousin went to Providence of God. And I remember the many, many taverns in the neighborhood. Sixty years later I still remember the smell of the tavern on the corner where my Lithuanian grandfather and his friends met up. Great memories.

    • Yes, it’s a really interesting neighborhood, and it sounds like you have some great memories. I should have included the little neighborhood grocery stores. My husband lived upstairs from one, with the El tracks running behind the house.

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment, Celeste!
