Simply Quilts, #quilting
Lazy days of summer…
It’s August 1st already? Where has the summer gone?
I’ve had a few lazy July days of long lunches and chats with family and friends.
But I’ve managed to do some writing. The fifth book in my Upstart Christmas Brides series is out for beta reading. I’ve also been putting together some marketing material for the Bluestocking Belles collection, Under the Harvest Moon which is now available for preorder.
And I worked in some time for a quilt review!
This week, the blog will be Simply Quilts, instead of Simply Romance.
My mother was an avid quilter, and today I’m sharing pictures of some of her quilts.
When Mom passed away in 2006 we had to take a partially finished quilt off the frame, a frame that my uncle had made for her some twenty-five years earlier. (Mom pieced and quilted by hand, just like the Regency era ladies.) My sister and I divvied up the quilts and shipped them home.
Most of mine went into closets, to be looked at later. Passing some of them on to new homes has been on my todo list for a long time. But I hesitated. I consider my mom’s quilts to be works of art; I want them to go to people who’ll value them.
My daughter has grown into an appreciation of quilts. She’s taken several of them, and says she wants all of the ones I’m not keeping. We’ll see.
And one more quilt picture!
My sister has inherited the quilting gene; she finished the quilt we took off mom’s frame when she died. She also made me this beautiful Jane Austen replica quilt. Another gorgeous quilt in my collection!
If you have an avid quilter in your life, you’ll never have to worry about those cold winter nights. Neither will your kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids!
What’s your favorite in the pictures above?
