Making a Ten Year Plan: #MFRWAuthor Blog Challenge, Week 32
What does the future hold?
Our Blog Challenge topic this week, “Ten Years from Now” is a tough one. I never think I’m old, but the reality is, I have several decades of life under my belt. Is it hopefulness or hubris to forecast ten years out?
Looking Back
Sometimes it’s useful to look back before looking forward to a ten year plan.
Ten years ago, my mother had just died and I was in a terrible funk grieving her. My daughter was 17 going on 35. My son was 23 going on 17. And my husband was four years into new heart plumbing. All but one of our siblings and their spouses were alive.
Since then, we’ve lost three siblings and two siblings-in-law. We’ve lost two dogs and gained one new one plus something my husband swore we’d never have–a cat! My husband’s piping is still good but the valve may need to be replaced. We’re taking that month to month and keeping our fingers crossed. And my kids (big sigh of relief) seem to have settled down.
Looking Forward
Regarding life, health, and death, “human beings plan; God laughs”. What will be, will be. But purposeful living is something we do have some say over.
Ten years ago, I had an incredibly stressful middle management job, and now I’m in my dream business. I have a business plan and a million crazy ideas for books. When I decided to go the Indie publishing route, I went for the best value on ISBNS and bought 100 of them. At two ISBNs per book, I only have to publish 46 more books to use up those ISBNS. How does that sound for a ten year goal?!
One thing on my agenda ten years from now: a tenth birthday party for this little guy! This is my new grandson, born August 3rd. Isn’t he a handsome little dude?
What’s your ten year plan?
Share it below, and then hop along with my fellow MFRW authors and see how they answer this week’s challenge!

Awww, what a sweet face! Congratulations on the new grandbaby! Good point about looking back to see what changes the last decade brought. I think I might just go do that now. It’s good to take stock.
Sometimes we don’t give ourselves enough credit for what we’ve been able to get through in the past!
Absolutely a handsome dude! Having grandchildren is one of my ten years from now goals. I like your point of looking back on the past ten years, I may have to sit down with the hubby and discuss where we were ten years ago, and where we want to be together in ten years. He’s been feeling rather stuck lately. I like that approach. Thank you for sharing, and for sharing the grandbaby!
Thanks, Ellie. I wish you good health and many beautiful grandbabies. This little guy came as a surprise to us, but we wouldn’t trade him for the world!
Aww cute little boy. Looks like he’s smiling in that picture. Congrats on the new addition. Looking back was a good idea. It did make me realize that I could not be here today if I’d waited any longer ten years ago to call 911.
Wow, Meka, I hope you share that story in one of the blog posts. Sounds scary, and I’m glad you’re here to hop along with us every week.
Congratulations on your grandson, so cute!!
Thanks, Valerie!
100 ISBNs! That is certainly ambitious, Alina, but I hope you use them all!
Me too, Ed!
Congrats on your new grandson! It’s good to look back and see how far you’ve come… I’m sorry for your losses, but happy for your joys. Good luck putting those ISBNs to use!
Thanks, Robin. Losing people you love is so hard, but that goes with living, I guess!
100 ISBNS. Good luck on your goal. And congrats on the new little one.
Thanks, Helen!
Congratulations!! He’s sooooo cute!!!!
Yes, ten years ago, we’d lost our house and were 5 people crammed into a 2 BRM 1 BA house. I also only had 2 self-pubbed books and the promotion wasn’t that promising. Now, we’ve managed to buy a 3 RM 2 BA house; I’ve pubbed 21 books, and just signed with Publisher #4. The future is looking brighter, career-wise:)
I’m so glad things turned around for you, and wow, 21 books! I’m so impressed!
Alina, I love the part about the ten year plan and ISBNs.
Congratulations on your beautiful new grandson and cheers to his tenth birthday.
Thanks, Mary. I’d better get writing!
